Christmas is a time of family celebrations, hence one of the biggest travel periods of the year. During these dates, many Spaniards decide to enjoy the holidays with their families or take the opportunity to travel. As a result, the demand for different means of transport is soaring. In this context, OK Mobility, the global mobility platform, has carried out an analysis that shows that Barcelona is the favourite destination for Spaniards this Christmas, with 21.3% of car rental bookings for this destination.
According to the mobility company's booking data, Barcelona is a great cultural and architectural attraction, which allows it to rank first as the most popular city for this festive period. Palma de Mallorca comes second, with 13.9% of domestic bookings for these dates. The Balearic capital is one of the main tourist destinations for international visitors. Still, during this time of the year, Spaniards also choose to visit this city, which offers milder temperatures.
Madrid comes third, being selected by 9% of travellers for these weeks. Likewise, the Spanish capital leads hotel occupancy in our country so far this year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE). Finally, the ranking is closed by Alicante and Tenerife, with 6.8% and 5.6%, respectively. A ranking that proves the predilection of Spaniards for big cities and for seaside and island areas to spend Christmas.
Othman Ktiri, founder and CEO of OK Mobility, said: "One of the core values of our company focuses on moving people and giving them the freedom to move wherever they want. In this sense, we are delighted to help Spaniards reach their destinations during these family holidays.” "In addition, through a network of 70 OK Stores in 15 countries, we continue to grow and expand to bring our mobility solutions to more and more people around the world," concluded Ktiri.
Small cars for city driving
On the other hand, the analysis carried out by OK Mobility shows that small vehicles are in the most demand for these dates, with 36% of the bookings. This type of vehicle is designed for short journeys, with a maximum of four passengers, and is perfect for city driving. In second place, Spaniards choose SUVs (35%), which offer greater versatility for longer journeys. Finally, 9.8% of travellers choose a compact vehicle for their trips.
